Getting to School: How do the students at SIS get to school?
Traffic Congestion:
We have learned that most cities and towns have a problem with traffic. As cities grow, more and more people use their cars to get around.
What’s so great about the car?
There are approximately 600 million passenger cars worldwide (roughly one car per eleven people). We use cars to get from A to B, we use them to transport our friends and families, our shopping and our pets. Cars do not run to a timetable, you can get in a car and drive from your home and back again without having to first get to the station or bus stop. Talk to your parents, ask them what it would be like to live without a car.
… and what’s so bad about it?
Air pollution, noise pollution, traffic congestion, safety, stress, relies on oil.
The Survey:
We will be making a survey of the students from Primary 2- College 4 in order to find out how they get to school. Once we have done this we will create pie charts to show the results of the survey.
The Challenge:
How can we reduce traffic congestion? You are going to come up with ideas that will encourage people to use their cars less and reduce the number of cars on the road. Once you have come up with your ideas you will then have to come up with a way of telling people about your idea.
