Manufacturing Industry
Once the raw materials have been collected from the Primary Industries such as Agricultre, they need to be made into something. This is done by Manufacturing or Secondary Industry. Cars, fish fingers, beef burgers, watches and books are all examples of products that have come from Manufacturing Industry.
The VW Factory in Dresden: The Transparent Factory.
1) Locating a factory: Answer the following questions in full sentences, giving as much information as possible.
a) Use Google maps to find out where Dresden is. Insert a map showing Dresden’s location into a word document. Make sure the Word document has a title, “VW’s Transparent Factory.”
b) Beneath your map, write a detailed description of Dresden’s location. Where is it in Germany, what countries is it close to?
c) What does the term, “Raw Materials,” mean?
d) What raw materials do you think a car is made from?
e) How do you think these raw materials are brought to Dresden?
f) Dresden is on a number of major autobahn’s. Do you think this was a reason why VW chose to build their factory in Dresden?
