An important road link, a source of electricity, an endangered habitat and a beautiful place visited by people from all over the world. The rock was created when magma was forced into the earths crust 300 million years ago, the mountains you see today were created when Africa and Europe collided about 40 million years ago.
How much geography can you get from one photograph?
Think about where you live, what you eat, how you get around. Can you make a connection between your life and the rocks beneath your feet, the atmosphere that surrounds you and the rivers, lakes and oceans that cover much of our planet?

Over the course of this year you begin to see how life is affected by the physical features of our planet. We depend on the earth to provide us with everything we need. Whilst humans have learned to live in even the most hostile parts of our planet, we cannot control the natural world. Storms, floods, earthquakes, volcanoes are just some of the natural hazards that impact on our lives.
